For a portrait session, prepare a hair brief that the stylist and photographer can understand. The product, finished style and photographs are separate parts of the plan.
Choose the relevant references
Show the look you want from the angles important to the session. Identify the parting, outline and colour feature rather than asking for an entire unrelated image. If the session includes several looks, label which style belongs to each instead of mixing them into one vague request.
Agree the product and service
Give the stylist the exact item and options before buying. Ask whether a cut, fit or other service is required and obtain that arrangement separately. Check product guidance before alterations. A model photograph on a product page is not evidence that the photographed finish will appear without preparation.
Plan inspection and timing
Allow the product to be inspected before the styling session and communicate any unresolved issue before the shoot. Keep arrival estimates separate from confirmed appointments. After the session, record the styling work if you want to reproduce it later; the final portrait does not identify every product or preparation step.
A practical detail to record
A session note can assign one look to the first setup and another to a later setup, with the person responsible for the change. This avoids assuming that a styling change will happen automatically between photographs.
Decision checklist
- Session looks and references labelled.
- Product and styling service separately confirmed.
- Inspection before preparation and a record afterwards.
